Like to run your own business one day? We've got just the job for you

At Majestic we’re on the lookout for talented graduates and entrepreneurs who’d like to become retail business tycoons.

How does running your own business in five years or less sound, for starters?

Looking for a Support Centre role?

Looking for a Sales Assistant or Driver retail role?

1 Being a Trainee Manager

What’s it like being a Trainee Manager?

Put simply, you’ll help our customers find wines they’re going to love by:

  • Delivering exceptional service to every customer, so they keep coming back, both in-store and when you’re out on deliveries in the van.
  • Using your growing wine wizardry to really bring wine to life for our customers.
  • Helping to run a smooth operation, ensuring your store is spick and span, fully stocked and a great place to shop. It’s pretty hard work – we sell a lot of wine – so there’s a lot of boxes that need moving around!
  • Being a team player and contributing to your stores success and sales targets.

What you’ll learn

With regular visits to the Support Centre, we’ll arm you with all the knowledge you need to become retail gurus, and customer champions. And through training, tastings and study we’ll give you all the tools and support you need to sit the WSET Level 2, and pass with flying colours.

Moving on up?

Show us you can do it, and after 1 year and completion of your WSET Level 2, you’ll be well on your way to becoming an Assistant Manager.

2 Being an Assistant Manager

What’s it like being an Assistant Manager?

It’s a big step. You’ll do everything you did as a Trainee, and now as your Store Manager’s right hand you’ll also get heaps more responsibility to:

  • Help manage and inspire your team to deliver exceptional service and sales.
  • Be a customer champion and wine wizardry role model, and take the lead on organising and running in-store events.
  • Help analyse and affect the commercial performance of your store.
  • Step into your Manager’s shoes, and run the show when they’re away.

What you’ll learn

To make sure you’re well prepared for your new role, we’ll help you learn more about the inner workings of your store, and the things you can do to make sure it’s performing at peak. And, not forgetting people, we’ll equip you with foundation layer skills to be a great leader.

Moving on up?

Hit the ground running, add value in your store and get the backing of your Regional team. After 1 year the next stop will be
running a store of your own.

3 Being a Store Manager

What’s it like being a Store Manager?

Now, you’re running the show. The buck absolutely stops with you and you’re totally responsible for making sure:

  • Your customers find wines they’re going to love.
  • Your store is hitting targets and growing year on year.
  • Your team are inspired, passionate, engaged and helping your store deliver success.
  • You’re a role model and seen as an absolute retail leader in your Region.

What you’ll learn

Running your own store is a huge challenge, so we’ll make sure you have all the operational, commercial and leadership skills to do it. On top of that, we’ll guide you with all the information you need to become a real retail guru, and offer ways to keep boosting your knowledge and passion for wine.

And that's just for starters

Our Business Partner programme gives our best performing managers even more autonomy in the running of their stores. And the more profit you make, the bigger the share you’ll get.

From there you can step up to a Business Coach role, and eventually a Directorship. Or you could take your Majestic career in a whole new direction, taking on a role in our Marketing, Commercial, IT, HR or Finance areas if it’s something you enjoy.

One day (if we’ve done our job properly) you’ll tell us you’re leaving to set up your own company, and change the world.

Do you have any questions?

Sales Assistant and Driver opportunities

Don’t worry if the Retail Management Programme isn’t for you, as throughout the year we also recruit for other positions in store. Sales Assistants and Delivery Drivers are a vital part of our team and perform a key role in the success of all of our stores whether that is helping to run the store or with a wine tasting or delivering wine to our customers using our company vehicles. In fact we think we offer just about the best package for our Sales Assistants and Drivers.

We pay the higher Living Wage Foundation hourly rate, offer a fantastic structured induction week in a store of learning as well as the opportunity to study for formal WSET wine qualifications and even on occasion the opportunity to run the store! We often have both permanent and temporary positions available, particularly during the summer months and the Christmas period and these part time positions can be flexible to fit around you but also allow you to work more hours at peak times if you desire.

If you’re interested in applying, and we don’t have any vacancies listed for these roles, then just pop into your local store and find out what they have available as well as registering for our email job updates so that we can notify you when we are recruiting in your area.
