The inside story

A day in the life

There are lots of things which contribute to making Majestic as successful as it is. Whether it be our love for wine, our unique tasting counters in each store, or just the fact that everyone here believes in the value of team work and great customer service. Living up to our great reputation, though, is hard work and before you make an application to Majestic, we want to show you exactly what it's like working here. Explore our day in the life to get the full story from some of our people.

We're giving the store a final once-over to check it's tidy and ready for opening up at 10am.

One of our regular customers arrives to pick up a couple of boxes of wine. A lot of regulars come to us because they love the Majestic shopping experience, and the fact that we're passionate about wine. They often know a lot about wine too, so it's a great opportunity to discuss our passion with them.

We deal with a huge range of customers and requests at Majestic. Find out more from Siobhan, Arthur, Lydia, India and Jennie in this video (View Transcript).

The first of our two delivery runs for today needs to be put together. With 5 different addresses to go to, we've got to carefully check the order and load up the van. This morning, it's our Trainee Manager going out on the delivery run.

Deliveries to both individual and corporate customers are integral to what we do at Majestic. Find out more from David, Alex, India and Jennie in this video (View Transcript).

A delivery comes in from head office. Depending on the store, a drop can come in up to 5 times a week. As these are delivered on mixed pallets, we then have to break up the pallet, check all of the correct stock has been sent through and then move the stock to the correct place within the store.

Another customer arrives. They want to buy some wine for a party, but need some advice on which wines to choose. We get straight onto the tasting counter to establish the customer's preferences and then recommend based on that.

Our unique tasting counters really help us in our job and are an important part of life at Majestic. Find out more from David, Suzy, Arthur, Gareth and Ludovic in this video (View Transcript).

We've got another delivery to make this afternoon for a big party this evening. That means supplying ice and glasses too, so it's a real team effort. We all muck in together to get the delivery ready and load up the van. This time it's our Assistant Manager who takes the van out to make the delivery.

Working at Majestic is all about mucking in together to get the job done - whether a Manager or Trainee. Find out more from Siobhan, Gareth, Lydia and Ludovic in this video (View Transcript).

It's been a busy day so far with a drop from Head Office, deliveries and several customers. So, it's time to do some merchandising and get the store tidy and ready for the evening rush in a couple of hours. We need to make sure everything is neatly displayed, has the correct information on it and that our special offers are clearly displayed for the customers.

Merchandising is a key activity at Majestic - it makes it much easier and more pleasant for our customers to shop when they can find exactly what they're looking for. Find out more from Karl, Alex, Gareth, India and Jennie in this video (View Transcript).

Now everything is tidy and ready for the evening, we take advantage of a short lull in activity to get onto the tasting counter together. This allows us to refresh our knowledge of our wines, try anything new which has arrived from Head Office this week and discuss the wines between ourselves to keep our knowledge up to date.

The evening rush starts. A lot of our customers tend to drop into the store on their way home from work, so we deal with a real range of requests, from just recommending a good bottle of wine, to helping plan the wine for a wedding.

Tonight, we're running one of our wine courses. We run these for free and customers can sign up for a short introduction to wine. We'll taste three reds, three whites and a champagne, as well as talking about food and wine matching. It's a great opportunity to introduce new wines to customers and pass on our knowledge and passion for wine.

Ultimately, working at Majestic is all about the wine. We need to know our stuff inside out and every one of us has a passion for good wine. Find out more from Siobhan, Alex and Lydia in this video (View Transcript).
