What to expect

Our aim is to prepare you for a position managing your own store. While we don’t have a set time frame for promotion, for those who perform well and are truly flexible about location, a typical career path could look like this:

Trainee Manager
Typically, you’ll work as a Trainee Manager in two different stores, immersing yourself in these fast-paced, physically challenging, team-orientated environments. You’ll get involved in every aspect of running these businesses, from serving customers to merchandising to making deliveries.

Assistant Manager
Once you feel confident enough you’ll be encouraged to apply for your first position as an Assistant Manager. Generally you’ll undertake two of these roles. They’ll give you a lot more responsibility for the success of the stores you work in, even running them in the Manager’s absence.

Store Manager
After that we’d expect you to be ready to apply for a Manager’s role. This would typically take three years. And from there you’ll find there are opportunities to get involved in other areas of our business, from new store openings to head office roles to our fast-growing commercial side, which operates with our business clients getting Majestic wines into pubs, bars and restaurants.

Along the way you’ll be mentored and coached, while also studying towards the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Certificate. You can find out more about this on our Support & Training page.
