1. What's the salary at Trainee Manager level?

Salaries depend on bonus and location but you should expect to earn between £17,000 and £19,000 in your first year.

2. Do I have to relocate in order to work for Majestic?

We do expect you to be flexible throughout a geographic region, for example the South West or London. This is because, as a Trainee Manager, you need to work in at least two stores in order to encounter varying management styles and customer bases, and gain the experience you need to become an Assistant Manager. In order to successfully progress your career with Majestic it is highly likely that you will have to relocate.

3. Can I choose which store I start in?

When you apply, you apply generically to our scheme rather than to a particular store location and we do expect you to be flexible about the locations in which you work. Although you can specify a preference on your application form for a location, we don't guarantee to meet this as there may not be a vacancy in that particular store at the time you'd like to start. However, we will do our best to place you as near as possible to where you want to be.

4. Do I need to know about wine in order to work for Majestic?

We expect all staff to be interested in the product we sell but don't expect them to join us as ready-made wine experts. Intensive in-store training, complemented by formal wine qualifications, will develop your product knowledge. As long as you enjoy drinking wine and are keen to learn, Majestic will do the rest.

5. What happens if I don't have a driving licence?

Unfortunately all our staff must be able to drive our company vans. This means we aren't able to employ anyone who does not have a driving licence.

6. What happens if I have a driving licence but haven't held it for a year?

We're happy to process your application form as long as you've held your licence for around six months. Although you won't be able to start working for us until you've held your licence for a year, we will interview you so you know whether or not you have an offer from us.

7. I've held my driving licence for over a year but it isn't a UK licence. Can I still apply?

You can apply to Majestic as long as your licence is valid in the UK. It's usually not enough to have an 'international licence' as these are rarely valid in the UK. If you'd like more information on this please contact the DVLA who'll be able to advise you.

8. Does Majestic sponsor work permits?

We're not able to sponsor work permits so you must make sure you have a valid permit in place before you apply to us.

9. I'm not a graduate. Can I still apply?

As long as you have good relevant work experience you can apply to join us as a Trainee Manager, even if you don't have a degree or an HND.

10. I graduated over five years ago. Can I still apply?

Of course. We welcome applications from all and it doesn't matter how long ago you graduated. In fact, we appreciate that you'll have already developed many skills in other roles and recognise that these may be a valuable asset to our company.

11. Do you offer vacation schemes or internships?

The shortest period of work experience we offer at Majestic is one year. This can be your year in industry if you're studying for a four-year Business Studies course or other relevant degree. Shorter placements don't give you a chance to really get a feel for the business, nor do they allow us enough time to give you all the relevant training.

12. Do you recruit external candidates at any other level than Driver or Trainee Manager?

Our policy is to recruit internally. This means you can't apply for positions at our Head Office, or at Assistant Manager or Store Manager level, without first getting to know the business. As a result, all our Head Office staff have a fantastic understanding of our culture, what it's like to work in a Majestic store (and how tough it can be) and what our overall aims and objectives are. It also means that as a Trainee Manager, you'll never work for a Manager or Assistant Manager who doesn't understand what it's like to be a new member of staff just starting out in the Company. When we need to recruit for our Head Office, we usually advertise the positions internally and invite applications from there, so your career with Majestic could diversify. Perhaps you'll work as a Business Development Manager in our Corporate Sales Department, or transfer to our IT Department. However, these can be infrequent and there is no guarantee of a head office position.
